Apprenticeship

Sketched, as if still becoming, L’apprentissage (Apprenticeship) embodies the fragile in-between where everything is yet to be built. Second panel of La quête de spiritualité.

Like all of Modka’s portraits on a gold ground, the work draws on Byzantine art, which the artist studied in art history at the Sorbonne: gold becomes sacred light, and blue the presence of the soul.
